This documentary follows the legendary theater troupe Tokyo Sunshine Boys, led by playwright Koki Mitani, as they reunite for a revival performance 30 years after their final production. The new play, The Mongolia is coming , brings together actors and staff once more, and Iwama was commissioned to capture the behind-the-scenes process. The film dynamically intercuts archival footage from performances over 30 years ago with rehearsals, meetings, and interviews from 2025. Through these layers, the dedication, passion, and hidden stories of the actors and staff emerge, elevating the work into reflections on the nature of theater, acting, collaboration, and the passage of time. A narrator (Masato Obara) uniquely addresses the audience directly as “you,” linking the troupe’s 30-year journey with the viewer’s own experience. Multiple versions of the documentary exist, including a theatrical cut and a broadcast edition on WOWOW.
